One Mom's journey to raise empowered mixed-race children

There is no such thing as Hell!

There is no such thing as the Devil!Last week, this little boy at school, told PJ and her friends, “You & your friends are going to hell!”. In fact, this is more like the 3rd time this little boy has said this to the kids when they’re on the playground and don’t play by his rules.

Being the Deist that I am, Hell doesn’t even exist, really.  So, when PJ told me what this little booger keeps telling kids on the playground, I said, in a very serious tone, “There’s no such place as Hell, so it’s impossible to go there.” She looked up at me, with a very quizzical look and said, “Really?”  And then I softened my voice a little and said, “Nope. And, there’s no silly ‘ol Devil, either.  So if he says that to you one more time, just laugh as if he told you a super funny knock knock joke.”

She then giggled, hopped off the kitchen stool and ran out to play while yelling back to me, “I’m gonna tell my friends.” [uh, oh…cringing this doesn’t somehow explode in my face]

Anyway, not sure whatever happened or if she did tell her friends about our disbelief in the firey place that houses a red and very mean guy with horns and a pitchfork.  All I know, it’s been a week and I’ve not heard a thing about this “hell” business and the playground seems to be a much more happy place lately.  I was going to ask PJ today at pickup, but some things are better left alone.  I’m trying really hard to learn to “leave it be”.  I’ll blog about that whole “inner process” another time.  I still have a lot of work to do there.
