One Mom's journey to raise empowered mixed-race children

Wow! This is 2009, right?

One LoveAnd yet another reminder of just how much the color of one’s skin can affect their life, their future, their love.  Keith Bardwell, a justice of the peace for Tangipahoa Parish’s 8th Ward in Lousiana, recently refused to issue a marriage license to Beth Humphrey and her boyfriend, Terence McKay.  Why?  Well, he’s Black, she’s White.  Say what?!?!

Not as if this isn’t shocking enough, because it is, but I’m just trying to figure out how something like this is even happening in 2009.  Don’t we have laws in place to protect people of color and to hopefully, stop racist things like this from occurring.  Even if one argues that Bardwell has the right to recuse himself from any marriage ceremony he so chooses, it doesn’t make it morally or ethically right.  And if you argue that it’s Bardwell’s personal belief or morals, then I say he is in fact a racist and should just step up and admit it!

You know?  The most comical part of all this, if one can find comedy in any of it?  Well, Bardwell states that this has nothing to do with bigotry or racism, he is simply protecting the children or how he puts it, “offspring” of biracial couples.  OK.  Because why?  They might become THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES someday?  What a joke!  This guy needs a new job.  Maybe Limbaugh has an opening.
