One Mom's journey to raise empowered mixed-race children

My daughters won't have to choose!

“This month, the Census Bureau will remind Americans that racial classifications remain an integral part of the country’s social and legal fabric while, at the same time, recognizing that racial lines are blurring for a growing number of people such as Harvey. The government will give the nation’s more than 308 million people the opportunity to define their racial makeup as one race or more.”

In just a few days, the government will give 308 million people the chance to report their racial background via the 2010 census. This will mark the 2nd year these 300 million plus Americans will be able to choose multiple races as their background. As a mother of multiracial children whom identify with both sides of their heritage and ethnic makeup, I’m very happy my daughters no longer have to choose. This simple choice is very empowering for my kids and the many other Mixtkids growing up in this country today.

If you’re multiracial, will you choose to identify with one or more races? Let me know. I’d love to hear other points of view.
